Urban structure, interesting city centres and car-independence are pressing issues in the planning of the Finnish cities at the moment. The cities around the world offer us inspiring examples of successful solutions. What king of planning will transform Finnish cities to support 21st century urban living?

Louise Grassov, Gehl Architects, Denmark
Gehl Architects is one of the world's most appreciated agencies focusing on human-centered urban development. Their plans have helped to create successful public urban space and lively pedestrian city centers e.g. in Copenhagen, New York and Melbourne. The strength of the planning by Gehl Architects is the research on how real people use urban space and where and how the interactive urban life is formed.

Lucy Bullivant, curator and architectural commentator, the UK
In her forthcoming book Masterplanning Futures Bullivant discusses how planning will change in the 21st century when top down direction doesn't work any longer. Bullivant introduces positive cases of planning systems that make use of and support people's ways of using the city.

Timo Hintsanen, planning manager, Turku
What is the vision of the cultural capital Turku regarding urban planning that serves the citizens?
