Fresh Flower pavilion
› changing space
Lucy Bullivant gave a talk at the Tonkin Liu - Fresh Flower pavilion, London Festival of Architecture 2008, on 12 July 2008.
Lucy Bullivant chaired a conversation with Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu of Tonkin Liu, architects of the Fresh Flower pavilion, about the design and making of the project, and others including the Promenade of Light, Old Street; Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley; Roof Garden Apartment; China Design Now exhibition for the V&A.
Fresh Flower was supported by engineers Adams Kara Taylor. Jointly commissioned by Corus and the London Festival of Architecture 2008, the pavilion showcases the creative use of steel. Its 11 unfurling petals rise off the ground, arching in an arrangement around a central stalk to create a sheltered space for events and meetings.
It was installed at four different locations during the Festival: Princes Garden (Imperial College) off Exhibition Road, at the Greenwich Peninsula, on Bedford Square and at Peter's Hill south of St Paul's Cathedral.
