Hands on, hands off
Lucy Bullivant was a respondent to the presentations at Hands On Hands Off: Three Surfaces of Disengagement, staged on Saturday 10 September 2005, 4-8pm, organised by V2 Institute for the Unstable Media, the leading interdisciplinary centre for art and media technology, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Hands On Hands Off: Three Surfaces of Disengagement was a V2 live event including urban installations staged during De Wereld van Witte de With Festival, Rotterdam (9-11 September 2005) at V2, Eendrachtsstraat 10, Rotterdam; KPN tower, Wilhelminaplein, Rotterdam; and at Witte de Withstraat, Rotterdam.
'Our daily environment is an assemblage of media langugage. We are seduced to enter the image, to live the message of media, yet our relationship with the media surface is becoming one of disengagement between ourselves and our environment. Hands On Hands Off is a live audio visual and interactive look at three such surfaces of disengagement at the scale of the city, the street and the wall - the aesthetics of 'surface' and their influence as generators of urban perception; three hands on projects which retake a piece of the city and bring us back inside the mediaspace' (V2).
